INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Middle class room with antique furniture.
WALTER, sophisticated and smoking a pipe, sits as he reads
the paper.
Enter EVE, his well dressed wife, with two cups of tea. She
sets one down near Walter.
WALTER
Thank you honey.
EVE
Your welcome.
Eve sits on the couch and stares out the window.
WALTER
What are you smiling about?
EVE
I'm just thinking... We've done so
good for ourselves.
WALTER
That we have.
EVE
And we have a beautiful teenage
daughter...
WALTER
Uhh.
EVE
Could we ask for more?
WALTER
Well, now that you mention it-
JESS, mini skirt, fake blond haired teen, on her cell phone
enters.
JESS
- Yeah! And I told Donna. Like.
She. Like. Knows nothing about
what, like, Greg's been through...
Yeah! Our lives, are so the, like,
the Hills... Right! Well, laterz.
EVE
Oh honey, are you going out again?
JESS
Yeah! Don't wait up okay!
WALTER
Is that Bobby's car outside?
JESS
Yeah! Is that, like, okay?
WALTER
Oh. Oh, yes that's fine... His
grandparents left him a trust fund,
right?
JESS
Uh. I. I don't know. Later.
EVE
Bye honey.
Jess leaves.
WALTER
That Bobby...
Walter chuckles to himself.
EVE
What was that all about?
WALTER
What?
EVE
Why are you so worried about Bobby
having a trust fund?
Walter sighs.
WALTER
Eve. Let's face it. Our daughter is
dumb-
EVE
Oh my-
Walter raises a finger to Eve.
WALTER
Bububup bup bup... She's dumber
than a snake in a blender, baby.
And. Goddammit. Let's face it.
The best she can hope for, is to
marry someone rich.
EVE
I can't believe this-
WALTER
Honey, when's the last time you've
seen our daughter crack open a
book... Green eggs and ham, maybe.
When she was in pre-school... The
only things she can read now is bad
grammar and L.M.A.O.
EVE
Give her some credit Walter. She's
a teen... And this is a horrible
conversation. And what? Now you
don't plan to send her to college?
She could be a doctor.
WALTER
Are you fucking with me?
EVE
What-
WALTER
Are you fucking with me?
EVE
No!
WALTER
Of course I plan to send her to
college... Where else is she gonna
meet a rich husband?
EVE
Our daughter has potential. I want
to hear you say that.
WALTER
I am not going to lie in the eyes
of the Lord!
They both go for a sip of their teas.
EVE
She is pretty stupid.
They share a laugh.
WALTER
See how good it feels, to admit it.
I mean the only thing she excels at
is understanding the fire exits at
the mall and fabricating un-resting
social conflict.
EVE
Thankfully, she's good looking.
WALTER
Comes with being dumb.
EVE
Should we call it a day?
Walter places a hand over Eve's.
WALTER
I know what I'm gonna pray for
tonight.
EVE
Me too.
FADE TO BLACK.
